Mangalore-based private sector lender Karnataka Bank Ltd today signed an agreement with Bartronics India Ltd for providing banking services in remote villages, where population is above 2,000, using business correspondents. The bank is already providing financial inclusion services through another service provider, Integra Microsystems (P) Ltd, the bank said in a statement.
With this, the bank will provide banking services to over 230,000 beneficiaries in 80 villages in Karnataka and other states, under its financial inclusion plan. It plans to cover 43 villages by March 31, 2011, and the rest by March 31, 2012.
The bank is also one of the trustees of the Karnataka Farmers Resource Centre (KFRC), Bagalkot. The KFRC has been established to provide training and all necessary resources to farmers in the state.
The bank has also planned to start Financial Literacy and Credit Counselling (FLCC) centre to provide information on Financial Services and Credit Counselling to the public in Karnataka, the statement added.
