MetLife eyes Gujarat's NRI belt

The Indian arm of MetLife Insurance plans to target the NRIs in Gujarat. Since a number of NRIs in Charotar and the Kutch region in Gujarat reside in the US, MetLife India Insurance Company Pvt Ltd is hoping to find an edge over other players.

"The rural as well as urban Gujarat has a lot of NRIs visiting from the US where we are a market leader. We will be targeting these regions for our life insurance products since they would be familiar with our brand," said Rajesh Relan, managing director of MetLife India.

Currently, Gujarat accounts for around 9 per cent of its Rs 620 crore worth of business. The company is planning to expand from its present nine branches in cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Vapi, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar and Mehsana.
