The advances of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) to Uttar Pradesh touched almost Rs 1,300 crore for various rural infrastructure projects in the current financial year. These advances under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) would be utilised for several ongoing rural infrastructure projects, including canals, roads and irrigation.

Since inception of RIDF in 1995-96, a cumulative financial assistance of Rs 8,644 crore had been sanctioned to UP for executing roughly 22,000 projects, Nabard Chief General Manager, Uttar Pradesh Regional Office, D P Misra said.

Meanwhile, Nabard recently sanctioned Rs 48 crore for renovation of the Yamuna Pump Canal System and 2 flood protection projects.

The renovation of Yamuna Pump Canal System in Allahabad district would restore irrigation potential of more than 33,000 hectare by replacement of worn-out pumping machinery and improvement in conveyance system of irrigation water. The flood control projects in Shravasti district would protect over 25,000 hectares agricultural land in 135 villages, besides ensuring safety to a population of 150,000 people and other infrastructure.
