National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has paved ways for some major irrigation projects in Madhya Pradesh with a sanction of Rs 84.99 crore. Two irrigation projects known as Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar canal projects have been cleared by the bank under rural infrastructure development fund.
“These projects will add approximately 7,000 hectare of potential. The Indira Sagar phase-III irrigation project will create non-recurring 11.92 million mandays of employment during the projecting implementation period while Omkareshwar project will create 11.53 million mandays of employment,” a senior official of the bank said.
Nabard, since 1995-96, has sanctioned a total of Rs 8,731 crore to Madhya Pradesh for various irrigation, road, bridge, mini-hydel, system improvement, school building and health centre construction projects. “The total sanctions of Nabard during 2010-11 has reached Rs 1,200 crore,” the official said.
