The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 30.07 crore as loan assistance to the
Karnataka government for building up rural infrastructure in various districts of the state.
The projects sanctioned cover rural roads, bridges, minor irrigation projects and anganwadis. These projects have been sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF XVI) and the cumulative sanction to the Karnataka during the year 2010-11 stands at Rs 403.02 crore. The road, bridge and minor irrigation projects have been sanctioned in nine districts which were severely affected by floods during last year, Nabard said in a press release.
Implementation of 16 rural road projects with a total length of 32.22 km and rural bridge projects with a length of 175 metres is expected to benefit nine districts connecting 83 villages with 26 marketing centres, besides generation of non-recurring employment to the tune of 326,000 mandays.
Implementation of the eight minor irrigation projects is expected to increase the irrigation potential in three districts to 522 hectares.
