Nse Debt Mart Turnover Peaks In Nov

The turnover in the wholesale debt market (WDM) of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) touched an all-time high of Rs 1,32,222 crore in November 2002. The previous best was recorded in January 2002 when the WDM turnover crossed the Rs 1,00,000-crore mark at Rs 1,11,736 crore for the first time.

Incidentally, the WDM turnover has crossed Rs 1-lakh crore mark for the fifth time in the current calendar year. Earlier, the WDM turnover had crossed Rs 1 lakh crore in January, February, August and October.

The turnover in the WDM segment has shown an appreciable increase in the last few months. The turnover rose by 31.3 per cent in October 2002 after registering a modest 3.3 per cent rise in September. In November, the turnover rose by a record 34 per cent.

The WDM turnover aggregated Rs 6,89,641 crore during the first seven months of fiscal 2002-03 (April-November 2002), a rise of 12 per cent over the corresponding seven months of fiscal 2001-02.

Government papers remained in demand with the top five securities recording a turnover of Rs 60,421 crore and accounting for 45.7 per cent of the total turnover.

The 8.07 per cent 2017 paper tops the list with a turnover of Rs 19,768 crore, followed by the 7.40 per cent 2012 paper (Rs 12,748 crore), 11.03 per cent 2012 (Rs 9,485 crore), 9.39 per cent 2011 (Rs 9,245 crore) and the 11.5 per cent 2011A paper (Rs 9,175 crore).
