After the recent round of promotions at RBI for the post of deputy governor and executive directors, the Central bank is now busy mollifying senior officials who were ignored for the top posts. B R Burman, a senor executive director of the central bank, who was in the fray for DG's post but lost the race to Thorat, has been given all perks provided to deputy governors.

Prior to becoming deputy governor, Thorat was executive director incharge of department of banking operations and supervision. As a DG she will look after two crucial functions - urban banks department and rural planning and credit - handled earlier by V Leeladhar, another deputy governor.

The round of promotions at executive director's level had one casualty. S S Gangyopadhyay, a chief general manager (CGM) who was superseded, has put in his papers. He was heading deposit insurance and credit guarantee corporation. He was to superannuate in 2011, sources said.

Another CGM P K Mishra, currently with North Eastern Institute of Bank of Management, was also in the running for ED's post but could not make it. RBI has decided to give Mishra all perks available to executive directors. Mishra has still over three and a half years of service left at RBI.
