Re ends at 46/$; gilts unchanged

Outlook: The spot rupee is likely to open in the range of 45.97 to a dollar on Friday.
 
Sentiment: Bearish
  • The spot rupee breached the 46 level to close at the same level to a dollar as the greenback gained overseas.
  • The six-month forward premium closed at 0.83 per cent, while the 12-month premium closed at 0.68 per cent on paying pressure in the market.
 
Money market
 
Sentiment: Bearish
 
  • Prices of short-tenure gilts moved in a narrow range of 3-5 paise ahead of the auction announcement.
  • The yield on 9-year gilt was unchanged at 6.98 per cent.
  • The government is scheduled to raise Rs 5000 crore though an auction of 10-14 years government stocks between 1 and 8 December. It is also expected to raise another Rs 3000 crore through the auction of gilts of 20-year maturity.
  • Call rates closed above the reverse repo rate at 5.35/5.40 per cent.
  • RBI accepted 7 bids, aggregating Rs 1,195 crore, under liquidity adjustment facility.
