The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 111.24 crore as loan assistance to Karnataka for building rural infrastructure in various districts. The funds are sanctioned under the 16th tranche of the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.
The projects sanctioned cover rural roads, bridges and minor irrigation projects.
The cumulative sanction to Karnataka during 2010-11 stands at Rs 514.26 crore.
Implementation of 37 rural road projects with a total length of 119.85 km and 13 rural bridge projects with a length of 269.10 metres is expected to benefit 16 districts connecting 220 villages with 76 marketing centres, besides generation of non-recurring employment to the tune of 961,000 mandays. Implementation of the 161 MI projects is expected to increase the irrigation potential in 16 districts to 9,368.22 hectares.
