Rupee ends lower at 45.69/$

Outlook: The rupee is expected to open between 45.66 and 45.69 against the greenback on Wednesday.
 
Sentiment: Bearish
 
  • The rupee opened at 45.64/65 per dollar and ended lower at 45.6850/69.
  • Premiums on forward dollars shot up. Annualised premiums on six-month and one-year closed at 2.78 per cent and 2.36 per cent respectively.

  • Government security prices crashed by almost a rupee across all maturities after the RBI announced a repo rate hike in its mid-term review of annual policy.
  • Prices of short-term securities declined by 40-50 paise.
  • Yield on the benchmark ten-year paper closed higher at 6.80 per cent after reaching an intraday high of 6.92 per cent.
  • Call money rates slid to close at 4.50 per cent.
  • Repo outstandings stood at Rs 5,000 crore.
