The Indian rupee fell by 2 paise to a one-week low of Rs 45.74 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, weighed down by gains made by the greenback against other Asian currencies overseas.

Dealers said the rupee lost ground due to dollar gains against other Asian currencies. However, a higher opening in the domestic stock market capped the losses.

The rupee had depreciated by 24 paise to close at Rs 45.72/73 against the US currency in the previous session on sustained dollar demand from importers and some banks and sluggish equities.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by 63.60 points to 17,526.64 in opening trade today.
