The State Bank of Patiala (SBOP) today said it has signed a MoU to become a Registrar for the Unique Identification Authority of India.
The bank has become a partner in the efforts of UIDAI in enrollment of residents under the UID Project and will assist the authority at various stages of the project, SBOP Managing Director Ashok Nayar said.
SBOP will engage enrollment agencies approved by UIDAI for capturing biometric and demographic data of the residents and for issuing UID numbers, he said.
Giving further details of the project, Nayar said participation in the UID Project will help to minimise frauds, multiple financing and mis utilisation of banking channels by correct and proper identification of the customers.
He said the bank would set up a "core team" to oversee the implementation of UID Project in the identified places.
The bank has planned to fit together the Financial Inclusion Plan with the UID enrollment for new customers. It will also facilitate issuance of 'Aadhar' number for its existing customers, enabling the bank to deploy Aadhar-based services across various delivery channels like ATMs, he added.
