United Bank of India today launched the first bank-promoted training institute in eastern India at Rajpur in 24-Parganas (South) today, naming the institute named UBI Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI).

This was the nineteenth RUDSETI in the country, the others being at Karnataka, said P Mohanaiah, chief general manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

"This is the only of its kind in West Bengal and we would be glad to support other initiatives such as this in the future," he added.

The residential training institute, located in the UBI's own premises, would accommodate 27 male and nine lady candidates.

It would train the local unemployed people so as to make them self sufficient and provide financial assistance after the completion of training, P K Gupta, chairman and managing director of UBI, said.

UBI had deputed one full time director along with two additional officers to coordinate the day-to-day affairs of the institution.

"Initially Ramakrishna Mission Samaj Sevak Sikshan Mandir of Belur, Howrah, would assist the institute to impart the training, and the would share the half of the operating expenses," said Gupta.

The bank aimed to open a similar institute in Belur with NABARD and RKM as partners, where all would have equal responsibility, he added.
