The first batch consisted of operational staff picked up from different urban cooperative banks in the state. D R Garg, the commissioner for co-operation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, inauguratingthe programme, said that while retail banking was the mainstay of commercial and multinational banks, the urban banks were catering to the common man in meeting daily needs.
After the two-month training programme, the trainees will take the DBF examination to be conducted by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.
The training will be provided by city-based Institute of Banking and Research with which the federation has entered into a strategic alliance.
Presiding over the meeting, G Rama Moorthy, the chairman of the federation, said they would conduct different specially designed programmes realting to cooperative credit, banking and allied matters.
