Vijaya Bank profit rises 6 % to Rs 59 cr

Vijaya Bank reported 5.62 per cent rise in its third quarter net profit at Rs 58.80 crore, from Rs 55.67 crore in the year-ago period. Interest income from advances for the quarter rose 19.41 per cent to Rs 358.85 crore against Rs 300.51 crore.
 
The bank recorded total business in the December quarter rose 15.55 per cent to Rs 42,582 crore from Rs 36,851 crore. Credit deposit ratio increased from 54.74 per cent to 62.06 per cent, the statement added.
 
The Bank has followed the same accounting policies for the nine months period ended December '05 as those for the year ended December '05.
 
Working results for the nine-month period have been arrived at after making necessary provision for non-performing assets/investments, standard assets, gratuity, pension, leave encashment, depreciation on investments/fixed assets, wherever applicable, income tax (after considering deferred tax adjustments, as per AS-22 issued by ICAI), fringe benefit tax and other contingencies on an estimated basis.
