The World Bank will submit a roadmap to the West Bengal government regarding development of technical education in the state, Minister for Technical Education and Training said today.
"The World Bank is preparing a roadmap for development of technical education in the state. Their representatives visited the state between June 21 and 23. They will submit their report within a month," Minister for Technical Education and Training Rabiranjan Chatterjee said here.
West Bengal was lagging behind in technical innovation despite having a huge talent pool and the state government was aiming at harnessing this resource to make the state a technical innovation hub, Chatterjee said on the sidelines of a FICCI-sponsored workshop for innovators.
Chatterjee, who is also the minister for Science and Technology and Biotechnology, said the government was planning to set up some biotech hubs in addition to the one coming up at Rajarhat and was on the lookout for required land. The government, he said, would take help from the Department of Science and Technology in popularising science among people, especially women and those living in rural areas.
"We think that once we can get the programmes rolling, they will automatically weed out various social evils," Chatterjee said.
