Akash Missile System Proper trials of Akash missile were conducted prior to induction into the Armed Forces. Details are given below: Development User trials completed successfully in 2007. Orders placed for 2 Squadrons by Indian Air Force in 2008 and 6 Squadrons in 2010. User trials of production equipment done successfully in 2012. Post Induction User trials of Akash Air Force equipment done successfully in 2014. Order placed for 2 Regiments by Indian Army and First Off Production Model (FOPM) trials were successfully conducted during 2014. Air Force equipment participated and fired missiles successfully in Iron Fist in 2016. Post induction trials of Army equipment conducted successfully in 2016. Akash Missile System is successfully inducted and performing as per the expectations of the Services. The production of Akash is being handled by M/s. Bharat Electronics Ltd and M/s. Bharat Dynamics Ltd with the help of a number of major and MSME industries spread all over the country. Thus, Akash, is a successful example of Make in India and proves Governments initiatives are successful in defence manufacturing.
