The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented awards instituted by the Rajbhasha Vibhag of Ministry of Home Affairs for the year 2013-14 at the Rajbhasha Samaroh 2014 at Vigyan Bhavan today (November 15, 2014). Speaking on the occasion, the President expressed the hope that the Rajbhasha Awards would further encourage people to use Hindi. In the vast country like India, where many languages are spoken, Hindi has its own special position. It is the symbol of our social and cultural unity and is the main connecting language between the people. It also has a significant role in connecting the Government and the people. In order to ensure that social welfare schemes and programmes are successful, it is necessary to see that they can reach the people in their own language. Therefore, Hindi and other Indian languages should be used in a manner that the information and benefit of development schemes can easily reach the common man. He expressed happiness that use of Hindi is gaining popularity in various media such as internet, mobile and other tools of information technology. He said that we must make all efforts to maximize the usage of Hindi. He complimented the Rajbhasha Vibhag for organizing the Rajbhasha Samaroh 2014.
