Press Release regarding serving of eggs in school canteens A Certain newspaper has carried a news item regarding permission given by the government to introduce eggs in school canteens. It has been stated in the news item that the Ministry of Women and Child Development has approved the proposal to serve eggs in the school canteens. The news item also quotes from the Report of the Committee constituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to look into the issues related to obesity in children due to excessive consumption of junk food. It is hereby clarified that the Ministry of Women and Child Development has neither received nor given approval to any proposal regarding serving of eggs in the school canteens. Further, the Report of the Committee constituted on children obesity has also not recommended eggs as one of the food items to be served in school canteens. It appears that the news item is not based on correct facts.
