Scheme for Free Treatment The National Health Mission (NHM) envisages provision of equitable, accessible and affordable healthcare to all the population, particularly the poor and vulnerable population in both rural and urban areas. However, there is no separate scheme formulated under the NHM to provide free treatment for serious diseases to poor people. As per Framework for Implementation of the National Health Mission approved by the Cabinet, NHM supports primary and secondary care interventions up to District Hospitals level and does not cover tertiary care. The Health Minister, Shri J P Nadda stated this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha here today.
