The general perception among people outside India about Indian movies is formed on the basis of Bollywood films which generally portray a picture of an India that is different from the reality. This made me to go in for a film like Songs of the Bards of Bengal: The Bauls and Fakirs, was the explanation of Monalisa Das Gupta, the producer and director of the film. Interacting with the media persons after screening of her film at 45th IFFI today, Monalisa said, The songs of Bauls and Fakirs are sung in the remote parts of Bengal and they are at the verge of extinction. These forms of songs are essential to be preserved as through them, the real spirit of India can be sensed, she observed.
