For most frequent flyers the most tedious part of a journey is enduring the mandatory flight instructions right before take-off. As is the case with most, no one pays much heed to what the flight attendants have to say. Air New Zealand has come up with what they call “the most epic safety video ever made” with a Hobbit themed safety video featuring Elijah Wood and Peter Jackson.

The video is a refreshing change from boring CGI images of flight safety instruction and is a visual treat for Tolkien fans. Needless to say the video has garnered a few million views already. The video features Elijah Wood, Peter Jackson and features other cameos from the cast of The Hobbit.

The airline has often referred to itself as the 'official airlines of the Middle-Earth'. New Zealand’s love for Tolkien’s fictional realm of the ‘Shire’ is well known. The Hobbit Trilogy was filmed entirely in New Zealand, throughout locations in both the North and South Islands. The Wellington airport also features a giant sculpture of Sméagol, one of the most venerated characters of The Hobbit and Lord Of the Rings series.

This is not the first Hobbit themed video they have come up with, in December 2013 they had released a similar hobbit themed video called 'Just another day in Middle-earth' . The airline had also unveiled a  Boeing 777-300 aircraft, with a 54-metre dragon Smaug the central character from Tolkien's The Hobbit, emblazoned on both sides, in Auckland.
