The loss has hit us hard: P R Sreejesh

The Indian hockey team's captain P R Sreejesh has apologised for letting the nation down after his team's 1-3 loss to Belgium in the quarter-finals at the Rio Olympics here."Unfortunately we are touching the moon, but still we couldn't reach there, we have fallen from there. It's hitting really hard because the expectation was very high on us back home," Sreejesh said after the loss on Sunday.

Dipa Karmakar is not disappointed at missing out on a historic bronze in the vault final of the Rio Olympics. Instead, she is aiming for gold in the next edition of the Summers Games in Tokyo. "I never expected a medal from this Olympics but to have come fourth is very creditable. In boxing, wrestling you get a bronze even when you finish fourth but not for me. It was very close to medal. After four years, my target would be gold," Dipa said brimming with confidence after her brilliant effort on Sunday.

Chawrasia, Lahiri way down

It was a disappointing end to a historic Olympics campaign for the Indian duo, S S P Chawrasia and Anirban Lahiri, who finished tied-50th and tied-57th, as golf made an appearance after 112 years at the Olympic Games. Chawrasia, who till the 17th hole on Saturday, was in hunt for a top-10 finish but crumbled thereafter. He bogeyed 17th and 18th on Saturday and then shot a seven-over 78 to finish at a total of five-over 289 and in 50th place. Lahiri's luck or putting did not change as he carded one-over 72 and ended at 10-over 294 and in tied-57th place. Great Britain's Justin Rose followed in the footsteps of the long-departed George Lyon of Canada when he climbed onto the podium to collect the Olympic gold medal on Sunday.
