Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President Barack Obama have announced formation of a joint working group to enhance bilateral cooperation on addressing global issue of climate change.
The announcement to establish India-US Climate Change Working Group came through a joint statement issued after Obama-Singh meeting at the Oval Office yesterday.
The move is aimed toward developing and advancing action oriented cooperation, as well as to begin an enhanced dialogue focusing on working closely in developing an ambitious climate change agreement for the post-2020 period, it said.
The two leaders welcomed the efforts of the UN Secretary General to mobilise political will through 2014, toward the successful adoption of a protocol, another legal instrument, or an agreed outcome with legal force under the convention applicable to all parties by 2015, during COP-21 that France stands ready to host.
