Sri Lanka: Rescue operations speed up as 91 killed, 110 missing in floods

Sri Lanka Air Force also deployed one helicopter and has arranged 3 other for the rescue operations

At least 91 have been killed and 110 are missing in the catastrophic landslides and floods that have plagued Sri Lanka in the last three days.

According to the Comlombo Page, the Disaster Management Center reported 40 killed in the western province and 48 victims in the central province.

The tri forces, the Disaster Management Center and District Secretariats have launched a combined rescue and relief operation in the wake of the disaster.

The Colombo Page reported that nearly 300 Army troops and 13 Navy rescue team have engaged in immediate rescue work in the flood-affected Weeraketiya, Neluwa, Morawaka, Deiyandara, Padukka, Bulathsinhala, Kalawana, Wellampitiya, Palindanuwara and Beliatta areas.

The Sri Lanka Air Force has also deployed one helicopter for Neluwa and has arranged 3 other for the rescue operations.

The Disaster Management Center has reported that 61,315 people have been affected by the natural calamity.
