Vietnam is mulling the postponement of the country's new Penal Code, which was scheduled to take effect from July 1, due to errors, officials said.
After discussing at an unusual meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) on Monday, heads of the NA delegations have received ballots on postponement of the Penal Code, reported Vietnam's state-run radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) on Tuesday.
Accordingly, as many as 90 contents with "errors" have been detected in the new Penal Code, which was adopted at the 10th session of the 13th NA in November 2015, Xinhua news agency reported citing the VOV.
Ballots regarding postponement of the Penal Code are set to be cast before 3 pm on Wednesday.
If major votes are "for", the Penal Code will be postponed till January 1, 2017.
As such, the current Penal Code is set to continue to take effect.
