If you have tried looking for a job but not been happy with the results, maybe it is time to make a few changes and improve your chances of getting hired.
Of course this does not mean that just following these tips will guarantee you get that job. Your hard work, work experience, the way you present your resume, your dedication to work and your confidence have a big role to play. The following tips will add a boost to your job search, and help you be more ahead in line to get hired.
1. Create a resume that fits the job you are applying for: Often, candidates prepare a resume that details their educational qualification, interests, past work experience if any, volunteer work if any and so on, and send it across to all the companies and job hunt sites. While most of the information that you share on your resume will remain the same, it is important that you build your resume according to the role you are applying for. For instance, if you are applying for the role of a content creator, you have to add details about where all you have written earlier, whether professionally or out of choice, and talk about the kind of interests that you write on. On the other hand, if you are applying for the role of a social media handler, you will have to change the information in such a way that it shows your skills as someone who can manage to get an audience to a social media page for the brand.
2. Instead of the job responsibility, talk about your strength in the role: Most candidates give details about the roles they have worked in before, and go on to describe the exact nature of the work. If you are applying for a similar role, or in a similar company, or even if you are applying as a fresher, the person who is hiring you already understand the requirements of the role. You do not need to highlight the exact job profile on your resume. Instead, you have to show what you can bring to the table, and how you can use your strengths to make the most out of the role you have been chosen for. Talk about what achievements you had in that role, and what you did differently that helped the brand.
3. Be truthful: You may feel that you can lie your way through certain things that you say on your resume, or in an interview, but the reality is, an interviewer will always catch it immediately. If you are not sure of something or if you feel you fall short on some of the job expectations but are still a good match for the role, instead of lying to make yourself look suitable, be truthful. Tell your potential employer that you currently do not possess those particular skill sets that they are looking for, but that, you are good at something else, which you can put to use and build on the skills they need. Show them your willingness to learn, and convince them about your passion and dedication for the job. Once they see your eagerness to learn your confidence in taking up a challenge, it will only increase your chances of getting hired.
In addition to the above, make sure that you take a look at all your social media channels and remove any content that could be deemed as offensive, racist, abusive, vulgar or shows you using substance. Recruiters today do not rely merely on an interview, they also do a lot of background checks, and it is best to have a clean social media image if you are currently looking for a job.
