Top academicians of the country have strongly condemned the Irma's decision to prevent Bakul Dholakia, and five other members of the board of governors of Irma from attending the institute's board meeting at Anand, on Friday.

"It is very unfortunate. The dictatorship attitude of a person such as Kurien was not expected. I have a lot of respect for the man, but I strongly condemn his action of not allowing Bakul Dholakia to enter the board room. The board of governors is a professional body and nobody at a personal capacity can decide. It will bring a bad name for the premier institute of rural management like Irma," said Dinesh Awasthi, director, Entreprenuership Development Institute of India (EDI), Gandhinagar.

Ramesh Bhat, professor and chairperson, management development programmes, IIM-A said, "It is quite unfortunate, the way things are happening and it needs to be sorted out at the earliest."

"Developments at Irma have disturbed the institutional process. Things are becoming person centric and not allowing the institute to take action of its own. This will affect the institutional building process. Kurien has been acting as a dictator and its a matter of concern for who so ever takes the charge of director," said Gautam Raj Jain, senior professor and curriculum development coordinator at Mundra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA).

"Its high time media should come forward for what happened with the person of repute like Bakul Dholakia in unjust and I condemn such action against him. What Kurien has done is like a voter types a letter sacking the prime minister of the country in the capacity of being a voter," said Awasthi.

Siddharth Swaminarayan, registrar, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Gandhinagar also expressed similar feelings, he said, "Its not a good sign in the academic institute of high repute like IRMA. Such scenes are even not created in the corporate board meets, where they meet for business. I strongly condemn such action that will bring bad name for the institute in the immediate future."
