B-SCHOOL ZONE: Issues in IPR

IIM Ahmedabad will hold a two-day programme in 'Harnessing intellectual property for strategic competitive advantage'.
 
The course will deal with basic theory and practice of IP regimes in India as well as the world. Reading patents, reviewing prior art, and understanding the strategic issues involved in protection of IP will also be taken up.
 
Players: Senior policy makers, institution leaders, researchers and managers of private and public sector firms, research and development organisations who are involved in creating, protecting or licensing intellectual property for competitive advantage. Industries in agri-business, biotechnology, herbal and other drug sectors.

Family business
 
ISB Hyderabad will conduct a programme in 'Perpetuating the family enterprise' for leaders in family enterprises. The programme aims to explore best practices tried and tested over 20 years in dealing with complex issues that surface while balancing the needs of the business with needs of the family.
 
Players: Leaders of family firms, next generation leaders, independent directors and advisors.

General management
 
IIM Bangalore will organise a programme in 'Executive general management'. The programme aims at introducing contemporary business models and practices to the participants and develop competence in the disciplines and skills associated with general management.
 
The programme for batch VI will be held from September 30, 2006 to April 15, 2007 and for batch VII from February 04, 2007 to September 01, 2007. Sessions will be conducted at IIM-B campus and beamed live to select Reliance WebWorld outlets across India.
 
Players: Mid-career professionals, graduates with a minimum of 5 years managerial experience and technologists.
Fee: Rs 1,80,000 per participant. The fee is payable in installments.
 
Communication skills
 
ICFAI business school, Mumbai (IBS-M) will hold a programme on 'Effective business communication'. The three-day programme will offer intensive training on communication skills and use of grammar and vocabulary. The programme will focus on various aspects such as effective reading, listening, speaking and coherence and cohesion in speech and writing.
 
Players: Managers, PR executives and sales executives with 0-8 years work experience can attend the course.

Labour research
 
The Adecco Group, a worldwide leader in Human Resource services, and TISS have signed an MoU to establish a research and policy advocacy programme in labour research. The Adecco-TISS Labour Market Research Initiative (ATLMRI) will be located at TISS's premises in Mumbai.
 
The joint-programme will analyse and understand growth trajectories in the Indian economy, the character of labour force and bring out a labour market research annual report and quarterly updates.
 
ATLMRI will also collect, analyse, and disseminate information on trends in the economy and labour market continuously, the nature of skills in demand, and the nature of skill sets stock and training available.
 
WHAT'S NEW
 
University of New South Wales (UNSW) Asia, has invited applications from Indian students for its first batch in Singapore. UNSW Asia will start operations in Singapore in March 2007.
 
Australia's leading international university, the institute will offer programmes in commerce, engineering and international studies, some of which will be available in double-degree programmes.
