73% of sample surveyed said there will be overall decline in campus hiring in 2014

What many institutes are fearing this placement season, is out in a survey by Firstnaukri.com.
 
The campus hiring survey, conducted by portal Firstnaukri.com, says hiring from campuses will see a slower pace in 2014.
 
According to the portal, more than 115 recruiters interviewed said there will be an overall decline in campus hiring in 2014.

Out of the total recruiters surveyed, 73% said that the number of students to be hired from campuses will be lower in 2014 as compared to 56% in 2013. Around 44% recruiters who hire engineers expect a decline in hiring in 2014 as compared to 50% who echoed a similar sentiment in 2013. 
 
Recruiters, who hire only MBA students, said that they will visit fewer campuses and will hire lower number of students this year.
 
“The uncertain economic conditions will continue to manifest itself through a weaker demand for students in campus hiring. Most of the companies have adopted a watchful approach towards recruitments and its ramifications will be felt in campus hiring as well. We expect fewer students to get employment from campuses next year," said Deepali Singh, Business Head, Firstnaukri.com said.

The portal said availability of quality talent still remains the lodestone for companies when it comes to selecting colleges for campus hiring with 25% of the recruiters expressing it as a key factor while selecting campuses for placements.
 
Key challenges faced while hiring from campuses include: lack of communication and analytical skills, students’ refusal to join a company after accepting the offer and salary expectations are some of the challenges faced by the recruiters while hiring from campuses. 
 
Personal interviews emerged as the most favored mode of recruiting students with 40% of total recruiters opting for the same.
 
The survey covered sectors like IT, ITES, Construction, and Finance. The portal sent out an e-mail survey to the registered clients of Firstnaukri.com and the results were compiled using statistical and analytical techniques.
