India more than made up for its lacklustre performance in the initial days of the on-going Cannes Festival of Creativity by taking home a total of 23 metals in the press and design categories – crucial segments given our emphasis on traditional media.

McCann raced ahead of its competitors with two golds in the press category, followed by Grey and Taproot winning a gold each. The latter (Taproot, that is) also bagged a silver and bronze in press, while Leo Burnett bagged a silver, and O&M and DDB Mudra took home three and one bronze Lion respectively in the category under review.

In all, Indian agencies bagged a total of 11 metals in press. In design, the tally was 12 metals with a gold each going to Taproot and O&M. The latter also took home two silver and bronze Lions, while McCann and BBDO walked away with two bronze lions each and TBWA and Leo Burnett bagged a bronze each in the category.

After four days of the festival, India has a total of 32 metals – the first time it has crossed the figure of 30. With categories such as film, film craft and integrated yet to be declared, Indian agencies cumulatively could cross the 35-mark this year.
