City-based Centurion Group of Institutions (CGI) will sign an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with the University of South Queensland (USQ), Australia, for collaboration in education field.

The objective of the MoU is to promote collaborative research, offer student exchange programmes and also award joint degrees to the students.

William Lovegrove, vice-chancellor of USQ had recently come on a visit to the city to explore the possibilities of a tie-up with CGI. He was accompanied by Prof Allan Layton, pro vice-chancellor of USQ. USQ’s focus on rural and regional education issues aligns well with that of CGI, which has a reputation for building quality education and generating economic development in Orissa through its constituent institutions like Jagannath Institute for Technology and Management (JITM) and Centurion School of Rural Enterprise Management (CSREM), Lovegrove said.

Lovegrove's visit follows several visits to USQ by the members of the CGI leadership team earlier this year. “We are investigating a number of areas where we can build closer teaching and research relationships and deliver high quality educational opportunities for our students”, said Layton. The partnership is also expected to lead to joint research projects and CGI faculty members will have the chance to undertake professional development programs provided by USQ, which has an international reputation in higher education teaching methodologies.
