Mumbai's S P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) has been selected for a "Teaching Innovation Program" by the Aspen Institute, a Washington-based non-profit organisation focused on fostering value-based leadership.
 
The two-year programme, supported by the GE Foundation, will bring together 11 leading B-schools and some top corporations from the world over to engage in developing a curriculum to prepare graduates for taking the lead in encouraging businesses to contribute to a sustainable global society. As part of the programme, the B-school faculty teams will implement a pilot project at their respective schools, each aimed at assisting individuals and firms in addressing challenges in the areas of corporate citizenship, social impact management, corporate social responsibility and values-based leadership.
 
SPJIMR's pilot project will be to design a programme to develop leadership competencies for social impact management for all types of organisations "" governments, NGOs and corporations. SPJIMR is the only Asian B-school selected for the programme.
 
IT convention at XLRI
 
The Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur is holding its sixth annual convention on information technology called the National IT Seminar (NITS), 2004 on November 6 and 7. The theme of the convention is "IT in industry verticals". Through this, NITS aims to bring forward the latest developments in information technology, their implications for business and the ways in which businesses can leverage these technologies to achieve competitiveness.
 
The sectors that will be addressed at the seminar include banking and financial services, organised retail, telecom, manufacturing and human resources. The participants at the event include Nasscom President Kiran Karnik and technology heads and consultants from leading organisations like Microsoft, TCS, IBM, Wipro, Infosys, and so on.
 
The event is organised by SOCRATES, the institute's students association focused on leveraging technology in business.
