Witnessing a slack placement season, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) today saw around 50 companies visiting the campus on ‘Day three’ (the fourth day) for recruiting the students of the post-graduate programme (PGP).

It is believed that foreign companies have been shying away from recruitments this year.

While Day zero saw a handful of investment banks and consulting firms, including Booz and Co, Bain and Co, Boston Consulting Group and AT Kearney Inc visiting the campus, the latter days have been filled up with the presence of banks, market research and FMCG companies, including Nestle.

However, the exact number of companies and number of placement offers made were not clear.

So far, the institute has kept the placement procedure under wraps and asked students not to speak to the media.

“It is in the best interest of the institute and students that we have decided not to share any information until the final placements get over, which will be soon,” said Samir Barua, director of IIM-A.

However, an IIM-A insider said, “The placements have been very poor this year. Also not many foreign companies are to be seen as compared to last year. This has of course resulted in some new companies visiting the campus.”

About 230 students from the institute are believed to be participating in the placements process this year.
