The Indian Premier League (IPL) now has a connection the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

The Delhi Daredevils, IPL's Delhi team which is owned by the GMR Group, has recruited a student of the Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGP-PMP) from the institute to manage its operations.

Colonel Vinod Bisht, the student, has been hired as assistant vice-president (operations) for the company for a Rs 30-40 lakh package.

The 45-year-old says the task before him consists of multi-layer management since it involves various stakeholders like the sponsor, the cricketers, advertisers and cricket clubs.

"Besides marketing, my profile will consist of managing a whole range of events which will unfold in the coming days including events with colleges, schools and citizens," said Bisht.

Bisht, who had served with the Indian Army for 23 years, will begin working for the team from next week.

A paratrooper, a national level sailor, and a keen cricket follower, Bisht says his army background, knowledge of sports and training at arguably the best management institute in India stands him in good stead for the role.
