In a bid to enhance student-industry interface, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) launches new set of speaker series for the current batch of post graduate programme for executives (PGPX).
"The speaker series is a way to offer students at PGPX an opportunity to interact with some of the top managers and executives from the corporate world. Also, these leaders get to know PGPX students who have already gained certain amount of experience from a placement perspective as well. This year the speaker series at PGPX began with Jung Soo Shin, president and chief executive officer of Samsung South West Asia. We hope to see more such corporate leaders being invited as part of the speaker series," said a PGPX official.
On his part, Shin shared tips and views on leadership in the current business environment addressing participants of IIM-A's PGPX class of 2011 on Thursday at the campus.
As a part of the PGPX Speaker Series 2011, Shin gave a brief background of his journey in Samsung and provided an overview into Samsung's global operations, products and strategy in India.
Shin also provided insights into challenges faced by Samsung in India. Some of the key points addressed during the session were the efforts taken by Samsung in adapting to Indian markets.
Emphasising on the significance of R&D as an integral part of Samsung's strategy, Shin also stressed on the importance of working across different cultures and listening to the voice of customers, employees and market.
Earlier, Samir Barua, director of IIMA and Shin signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the IIMA campus to announce the Samsung Scholarship Program.

As a part of its ongoing efforts to provide merit scholarships and enhance opportunities for students to excel academically, IIMA has partnered with Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. to roll out the 'Samsung Scholarship Program'.
The program will recognise and support five meritorious students from IIMA every year.
