Even as entrepreneurial post-graduate programme (PGP) students at the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) have the back-up option of appearing for placements the year after, in case their ventures do not take off as planned, students of the Post Graduation Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX) could also receive a similar option. |
But, the proposal being mooted by a PGPX student to the PGPX committee will have to come through in the first place. |
Following placements of the 2005-2007 batch where 11 students of IIM-A's PGP batch had declined fat pay packets to set up their own enterprise, the institute announced that henceforth, PGP students can return and avail of the facility of placement for up to two years. |
A student of PGPX said that close to six or seven participants from the batch had shown interest in starting their own ventures and that the two year placement initiative could also be extended to PGPX if approved by the PGPX committee. |
Also, in a clear indication of the growing interest in enrolling in PGPX, the average GMAT score for the incoming third batch of PGPX has shot up from 695.42 in 2006 to 731 this year. |
PGPX's average GMAT score of 731 is comparable to the entering class of 2006 at Harvard with 707 and at Wharton with 713. Besides, the percentage of female candidates enrolled for the course this year has also taken a hike from 5 per cent to 10 per cent. |
The third batch consists of participants of whom 30 per cent are from general management, 22 per cent from project management, 9 per cent from R&D, four per cent from marketing, among other categories. |
For the second batch, rolling placements are set to begin by January-end and students are now set to go on international internships where they will work with universities like University of British Columbia, Columbia Business School, among others. |
They would also intern on projects with leading global firms like Unilever, Microsoft, Cummins, Cisco and others. Last year, 2-3 students received job offers from companies they had interned with. Arvind Sahay, Chairperson, PGPX said he expects the number of offers after the international immersion to see a significant growth. |
