Having returned from their recent international immersion programme, students of post graduate programme in public management policy (PGP-PMP) at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) have been emphasising on the significance in the field of global relations.
“Studying in universities of the US and Europe along with students from different countries provided us first hand understanding of issues of significance in fields of international public policy, corporate and public sector governance and functioning of important international institutions. While as public sector employees we do get to visit other countries, it was only through the international immersion programme through the institute that has helped us to study pressing issues like international relations where we need to gain some more understanding,” said a PGP-PMP student of IIM-A.
The current batch of 39 participants under the PGP-PMP programme spent around 6-8 weeks at partner institutions for a period of one month. The foreign partner universities collaborating with IIM-A for the international attachment module of PGP-PMP include University of Geneva, University of Texas, Georgetown University, and Carnegie Mellon University.
Currently, the second batch of PGP-PMP 2008-09, which started April 2008 consists of around 67 per cent participants having government services and 33 per cent participants working in PSUs, Banks, NGOs and other private firms.
