The newly elected lawmakers of Karnataka would undergo an unique course on legislation business at elite Indian Institute of Management here. The State Assembly will organise a three-day orientation camp for 115 newly elected legislators from December 13 to give them an insight of parliamentary process.

The session, to be inaugurated by former President APJ Abdul Kalam, would be addressed by senior parliamentarians including former Parliament Secretary Subhash Khashyap, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley who would explain issues concerning legislation business, including debate on financial bills. There are 90 new MLAs and 15 new MLCs in the assembly this time.

Other stalwarts from Karnataka who would teach the legislators include former ministers M P Prakash, M C Nanaiah, former judge V S Malimath and Rama Jois, besides Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority ‘Mukyamantri’ Chandru.

State Assembly Speaker Jagadish Shettar said a session on relationship between Legislature, Executive and Judiciary would also be held during the camp. The importance of question hour, zero hour, calling attention notice and privileges and immunities enjoyed by members would be explained, he added.

The camp would also help legislators acquire skills on personality development, Veeranna Mathikatti, Chairman of the Legislative Council, said.
