IIM-L gleaming with women power

Female students register 150% rise

Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L) is gleaming with women power.

The premier B-school has registered over 150 per cent rise in the number of female students in the 2012-14 batch compared to 2011-13 batch.

A total of 166 female students have been inducted this year in both the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management and PGP in Agri Business Management of the total batch size of 453 students. This puts their number at 37 per cent.

The previous 2011-13 batch had witnessed around 14 per cent female students, when the total batch size was 419.

IIM-L said the key focus this year was ensuring gender diversity without compromising merit.

The 2012-14 PGP batch is the largest ever for IIM-L comprising 407 students in PGP in Management and 46 students in PGP in Agri Business Management. The number of female students in the two programmes is 144 and 23 respectively.

Although majority of students still have engineering background, their percentage has come down compared to previous years. Students from diverse fields like medicine, pharmacy and even food technology are part of the new batch.

Engineering background accounted for 80 per cent of students at 325 for the PGP in Management, followed by commerce 47. In terms of work experience, 169 students had experience of less than one year, 136 had experience of 1-2 years and 102 had job experience of over 2 years.

In PGP in Agri Business Management, engineering background accounted for the maximum number of 35 students (76 per cent), followed by science 10 students. A majority had job experience of less than one year at 60 per cent (28 students), followed by 1-2 years experience of 15 students.
