The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R), on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK-based Southampton University to promote collaborative research, primarily in the areas of aviation and railway engineering with a focus on developing technological solutions for the industry.

Pradipta Banerji, director of IIT-R and Don Nutbeam, vice-chancellor of Southampton University, signed the agreement during a joint workshop at Southampton, a statement by IIT-R said.

“To cement the relationship, the institutions are holding a number of thematic workshops both in the UK and India. The workshop this week in Southampton has already enabled us to identify areas where there is real potential for thematic scientific collaboration and we are very excited to be holding the next workshop at our Roorkee campus in July,” Banerji said after signing the agreement.
