MBA qualification has emerged as the de-facto choice of students and employers over the years.

In 2010, while China had 230 B-schools and the US about 1,000, India had over 3,000. The Chinese economy is four times that of India and the US about 15 times.

Common Admission Test (CAT) aspirants have declined from 2.6 lakh to 2 lakh in the last three years. Also, 30 per cent of the 2 lakh approved seats by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) remained vacant this year.

The demand for executive MBA from premier institutions is increasing despite increase in fees, which reflects the growing appetite for world class management education.

Setting up a world class B-school can be a good proposition, but requires best-in-class faculty, global tie ups, corporate partnerships and world class infrastructure. Such a B-school can offer full time MBA, executive MBA, fellow and short-term management development programmes.

An investment of about Rs 150-200 crore is required (excluding land) to set up a 20-30 acres campus.
