Social media networks such as Facebook, Orkut and Twitter are being accessed by 80 per cent of India’s internet users.

Social media usage grew 43 per cent in one year to 33 million users.

This has made India the seventh-largest market in the category. Almost all of these 33 million users belong to the middle class.

A significant advantage is that the medium provides real-time data, and is an inexpensive way to conduct research across product testing, concept testing and so on.
