Telecom operators are ready to roll out 3G or third-generation cell phone services in the country.

3G download speeds can be ten times faster than those of the current 2G networks. Over the past few years, the prices of smart phones have dropped significantly and the number of users has gone up sharply. This has led to a huge demand for faster internet speeds for phones.

The Indian 3G market has huge potential, considering that India is the world’s second-largest wireless market.

Growing subscribers and a declining voice ARPU (average revenue per user) will encourage cellular operators to consider 3G services as a value-added, premium service.

3G services have also gained momentum because of the Department of Telecom’s plans to connect 250,000 villages through wireless broadband and 3G mobile services.
