With the social media reaching a stage where an individual's 'tweet' is a matter of concern for the whole organisation, the Loyola Institute of Business & Administration (LIBA) is planning to cash in on the trend. LIBA will be one of the first such institutes that will be offering 'Social Media Management' as an elective for their two year full time MBA programme.
"With the recent introduction of social media marketing as an elective for its esteemed two year full time MBA programme LIBA not only became the first college in India and third in the world to offer so but also bagged placement this season in that space. This year's placement scene also witnessed offers from Internet based firms and placement has also happened in this space," said Jayaram K Iyer, spokesperson, Loyola Institute of Business and Administration (LIBA).
The move comes at a time when Indian B-schools are making a beeline to enter the market not only with general management programmes, but specialised MBA courses.
According to Iyer, social media is the best form of Internet marketing which utilises channels such as social media sharing sites, blogs, review rating sites, and news aggregators, among others. "The most important aspect of the social media is the viral effect, it spreads like a virus and creates ripple effect in on Monday's 3G world which will help it to emerge as a force to reckon with in each and every aspect of promoting, branding and marketing one's business," added Iyer.
