Rajasthan’s wait for a university campus from the Manipal Group may get longer as the group is still undecided on what kind of a campus to set up in the state’s capital, Jaipur.

“We have not yet firmed up our plans as to what kind of presence we would want in the state.  Any branch campus of deemed university should be owned and operated by us. The process will take some time,” a senior official from Manipal University told Business Standard.

The Jaipur campus to be spread over a 100-acre area, was to be operational in August 2009, in phases with facilities such as academic complexes, research centres, student housing, faculty amenities, sports facilities, and more.

The campus would have — an engineering college offering multiple streams; a banking and financial services competency academy; a management institute spanning general management and specialized domain management and collaborative research and development activities with industry.

Anand Sudarshan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Manipal Education says the  the group is awaiting necessary policy framework on higher education institutions to be in place.

“In the past one year, the higher education segment has seen tremendous changes being initiated. We are open to taking advantage of whatever education reforms come our way. Once we have a clear picture we would be in a position to formally decide how to shape up our Jaipur campus plan,” said Sudarshan.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), in 1993, was accorded a deemed university status under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Today, it has 20 constituent institutions comprising medical, dental, engineering, architecture, nursing, allied health, pharmacy, management, communication, information science, hotel management, biotechnology, regenerative medicine etc.  The university offers Bachelors’, Masters’ and Doctoral degrees in various specialties.
