Smartphones have led to manifold increase in wireless data traffic but at the cost of security. While more data volumes may mean increased revenues for mobile operators, it also reinforces the need for these operators to focus on the whole end-to-end customer experience. Mobile operators that differentiate themselves by offering smart security services are set to gain in the long run, says a KPMG report on mobile security. Demand for services such as personal fraud watch, consumer app risk management and personal trust management are set to rise. Consumers need to know whether an app would leak their personal data to third parties, share their credentials with embedded advertising services, or worse, take over their mobile device. Personal fraud watch function helps the consumer identify potentially fraudulent transactions. Personal trust management includes mobile usage monitoring and privacy monitoring such as controlling which ads get displayed on the mobile phone.
