This summer, 66 students out of a total of 245 are doing their internship overseas, which was 53 from a total of 249 students last year. |
In terms of percentage, last year it was 21.3 per cent which has gone up to 27 per cent this year. |
In countrywise distribution the number of students opting for US was eight per cent and 12 per cent went to firms in Asia and Europe respectively. |
In 2005, only four per cent were in US while the Asian and European figures were 7.2 and 11.1 per cent respectively. |
Students undergo eight to ten weeks of training with top companies in the country and abroad. |
Based on their performance in their internship, students are also offered jobs known as pre placement offers (PPO). |
More than 80 companies participated in last year's summer placement. |
It is also interesting to note that two of the three students who had received the institutes record breaking highest pay package of $ 1,85,000, both overseas postings, were PPO. |
A total of 31, 28 PPO and three pre placement interviews were made to students |
"Companies usually give job offers on the basis of the performance of the students in their stint at the company," a placement cell official said. |
The increase overseas ventures is a healthy sign for the institute as it signifies further acceptance of the institutes in overseas companies. |
"Many foreign companies who have Indian operations take students as interns as they can be later placed in the country," Piyush Sinha, placement head IIMA told Business Standard. |
"Similarly, many Indian companies who have overseas operations also take students as interns," he added. |
However, he added that the trend signifies the acceptance of the Institute overseas which is also reflected in the increase in the number of international job offers made and their acceptance. |
