In an industry-academia collaboration in North-East, Assam-based Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) today entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gauhati University for management education (MBA) for its executives.

The MoU for this first-of-its-kind-innovative-initiative in North-East was signed between DK Goswami, general manager (HR) of NRL, and UC Das, registrar of Gauhati University, in the presence of BK Das, managing director of NRL, OK Medhi, vice chancellor of Gauhati University and other senior faculty members of the university and officials of NRL.

Speaking on the occasion, BK Das termed the day as red letter day for NRL and thanked GU for agreeing to extend their expertise beyond the boundaries of their institution to reach out to NRL executives who would now be able to hone their management skills and earn their post graduation in management while pursuing their profession.

“Signing of this MoU heralds a new chapter in industry-academia interface in North-East, which is seen as a symbiotic relationship which promises great benefits for both the partners,” Das said.

He expressed hope that this collaboration would open floodgates of many such industry-academia interfaces in the future.

Kakati, head of the department of Gauhati University, said the curriculum at the university was framed with special emphasis on the oil and energy sector. Theoretical inputs from the faculty along with practical inputs gathered by way of case studies would be incorporated in the MBA regular course and provide good material for research and development, Kakati added.
