Pathways World School has become the first school in India to introduce design and technology as a part of its academic curriculum.
"The purpose is to explore the creative mind of the students and liberate their design potential through innovative use of technology," the school said in a statement.
The programme aims to impart training in the design and manufacture of quality product prototypes by developing the knowledge, skills and values of the students on a continuous basis.
A specialised curriculum has been developed for students from Class 4 to 12 which offers students opportunities to broaden their innovative base and as a result facilitate continuous progression in the area of design & technology.
Vital to the curriculum at Pathways is the inclusion of a wide and balanced field of practical project-based activities with varying specifications and time durations, enabling students to build upon and develop existing knowledge and skills whilst acquiring new knowledge, skills and understanding.
The Pathways design and technology curriculum has a planned range of balanced practice-based project activities which include design-and-make assignments, focused practical tasks and investigation, disassembly, evaluation and applications of new and familiar products.
Taken together, these programmes will deliver opportunities to work with compliant and resistant materials as well as electronic componentry and have an inherent provision for assessment through a variety of methods such as formative and summative assessment.
Continuity from grade to grade and activity to activity has been worked into the curricula to facilitate an ordered progression of student capability and generate suitable new learning experiences.
All the projects will facilitate and enhance cross-curricular links and learning throughout the school and, as far as possible, support spiritual, social, moral and ethical issues in students' educational development.
